Bowdens - the brand behind multi-award-winning Bowden Hostas and Rickards Ferns - has acquired the Nottinghamshire-based garden design and build business, The Outdoor Space Company.
Boasting an eight-year track record of creative garden design, the company was created by David Richardson, who is now planning to emigrate to Australia.
“I’m really pleased to know that all my current and future clients will be in safe hands with Bowdens,” said Richardson. “They are ideally placed, and have the strength and depth to be able to ta

ke on all my future design and builds - both large and small”.
Bowdens garden design and build arm is headed by former head gardener to HRH The Prince Of Wales, David Howard, who has been working with Bowdens since the beginning of the year.
“This really is a natural extension to our business,” explains Tim Penrose of Bowdens. “We offer planting plans, and have already designed and built gardens with David Howard. The Outdoor Space Company was run by David Richardson in a highly professional manner, and we are looking forward to building its reputation further.".
Bowdens are now the leading mail order company in the UK for hostas, ferns, grasses and bamboos.
The acquistion of The Outdoor Space Company adds to the recent purchases of renowned Rickards Hardy Ferns and World fo Ferns. Former proprietor Martin Rickard continues to work with Bowdens as a fern specialist and consultant.
The first new contract for The Outdoor Space Company is to design and build a garden within a local prison, featuring a raised bed.
“But we’ve been asked not to make it too raised,” quipped Tim Penrose.
Bowdens is offering anyone with a Nottinghamshire postcode a 15% discount on garden design and build for a limited period. Contracts need to have been signed by December 1st, 2012, for the discount to apply. Phone 05603 464952 or 07917 104409 for further details.
